How to Use MAIA When Your Child Is Sick
MAIA (Medical AI for Immediate Assistance) is KidSafe PH's 24/7 emergency AI advisor. It is specifically designed for situations where a parent cannot be physically present — including OFW families.
Caregiver opens MAIA
The yaya, lola, or spouse opens KidSafe PH on any smartphone and taps the red SOS button. No account needed for basic access.
Describe symptoms in Tagalog or English
MAIA understands both languages. The caregiver describes what they see — fever temperature, behavior, rash, breathing. MAIA asks follow-up questions.
MAIA gives immediate guidance
MAIA tells the caregiver: monitor at home, see a doctor today, or go to the ER immediately. It explains why in simple terms.
Share summary with OFW parent
MAIA generates a summary of the conversation. The caregiver can share this via WhatsApp, Viber, or email so the OFW parent knows exactly what's happening.
MAIA vs Symptom Checker — Know the Difference
Use MAIA when your child is sick RIGHT NOW and needs immediate guidance. Use the Symptom Checker for non-emergency assessment — "should I see a doctor or wait?"
Emergency Contact Chain — Set This Up Before You Leave
The most important thing you can do before going abroad is establish a clear emergency contact chain. Everyone in the chain must know their role.
Caregiver (yaya/lola/spouse)
Assess the situation using MAIA. For emergencies: call 911 and go to ER immediately — do NOT wait to reach the OFW parent first.
OFW Parent (you)
Caregiver calls/messages you via Viber/WhatsApp. You guide remotely using MAIA summary and teleconsult if needed.
Backup Family Member in PH
If OFW parent cannot be reached, this person is called. They can physically go to the hospital if needed.
Family Pediatrician
For non-emergency situations, the caregiver can call the family pediatrician for guidance before deciding to go to the clinic.
