Know exactly what to do at every temperature range — from mild warmth to emergency level

Low Fever

37.5°C – 38.4°C

Monitor at home. Offer fluids. Give paracetamol if uncomfortable.

  • Keep child hydrated with water, broth, or ORS
  • Remove excess clothing
  • Give paracetamol at weight-based dose if needed

Newborns (0–3 months)

  • ANY fever ≥38°C is a medical emergency — go to ER immediately
  • Newborns cannot regulate temperature and deteriorate rapidly
  • Do not give any medication — go directly to hospital
  • Do not wait for morning clinic — ER now

Infants (3–12 months)

  • 38.5°C+ with no obvious cause — same-day clinic visit
  • Check for ear infection, throat infection as common sources
  • Dengue season: fever with no cold symptoms → blood test needed
  • Maintain breastfeeding — extra feeds improve hydration

  • Fever with headache, stiff neck, rash → ER immediately
  • Sponge with lukewarm water (never alcohol or ice)
  • Encourage fluids — soup, water, calamansi juice are excellent
